Summer safety tips
I would like to congratulate the graduate candidates of this season as we also enjoy the summer vacation and visit many places, others are seeking summer jobs, seminars, summer classes and everything that everybody feel and enjoy the heat of blessed Philippine summer, as I go on.
I would like to inform and share to everybody the safety during this month.
What is the safety that we have to be aware?
Safety from drowning.
While enjoying our rivers remember,
Remember 8 Filipinos are perished everyday due to drowning and it increased during the month of summer (WHO files)
Flooding Safety Checklist
Never drive through flood waters
Never swim in flooded waterways
Never ride on a boogie / surf boards in flood waters
Wherever possible, wear a life jacket when in, on, or around flood waters
If conducting a rescue avoid getting in the water yourself
When swimming in natural waterways after floods be aware that the conditions of the waterway may have changed dramatically since the last time you swam there
After floods, always check the water before entry and enter slowly feet first
If the river level rises go to safety as quickly as possible as flash flooding may occur
Alcohol & Water Safety Checklist
Avoided enteringwater if alcohol has been consumed
Participated in aquatic activities before drinking and did not re-enter water afterwards
Avoided consumingalcohol if supervising children
Avoided aquatic activity alone
Avoided aquatic activity at night
Avoided aquatic activity in conditions or environments that are unfamiliar

Checked conditions with a resident local to the area before entering
Swam in patrolled areas, where possible
Condition of all equipment checked before use
Observed for changing weather conditions
Observed conditions of water before entering
Watched out for other people or watercraft when in the water
Ensured children are actively supervised (within arms’ reach) at all times

Inland Waterways Checklist
Checked conditions before entering
Entered water slowly, feet first
Caretaken around crumbling riverbeds and slippery dam edges
Underwater obstacles such as rocks, branches and rubbish avoided
Caretaken when walking on unstable, uneven and slippery riverbeds
Avoided crossing flooded inland waterways Avoided enteringwater if alcohol has been consumed
All peopleon craft wearing properly fitted Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs)
Resuscitate Checklist
Danger - Check for danger to self, to bystanders and tovictim
Response - Shout “Are you ok?” and gently squeeze the victim’s shoulder
Send - Send for help
Airway - Clear and maintain airway
Breathing - Look, listen and feel for breathing
Compression - If no signs of life, commence CPR
Defibrillation - If available, grab a defibrillator and follow the prompts

- Be careful if you go to rivers and streams as this is the number 1 fatal sites for those individual wanting to reduce their body temperature, remember if you don't know the depths of that river stay away from it.
- If you don't know how to swim don't go for it
- Go in a group not alone
- Don't drunk and swim

- Learn how to save a life
